On March 12, WorkSource and Partners in Careers co-hosted a Multicultural Job Fair with the intention of bringing work opportunities to immigrants, refugees, and non-English speakers. We’re happy to say that the event was a massive success, attracting 200 attendees!
On entry, attendees were asked to write down their native language. By the end of the night, we were able to see how diverse Vancouver truly is, with a dozen different languages self-reported—including Amharic, Arabic, Armenian, Chuukese, Dari, Romanian, Spanish, and more.
We’re proud to say that ten job seekers have been hired so far!
Thirteen employers joined us for the event, five of which are owned or operated by immigrants or refugees. WorkSource and Partners in Careers worked carefully in selecting employers for the event to ensure that they had bilingual staff and were open to hiring people with limited English proficiency.
By all accounts, the job fair was a success. One employer wrote, “The turnout was amazing! I really felt like everyone truly wanted to be there and help those looking for employment opportunities. It was such a great atmosphere to be in!”
