Indigenous Peoples’ Day is observed on the second Monday of October in recognition of Native people as the first inhabitants of the Americas. On October 9th of 2023, Mayor Anne McEnermy-Ogle declared Indigenous Peoples’ Day as a recognized holiday by official proclamation in Vancouver, WA.
WorkSource acknowledges the violence, marginalization, and assimilation forced upon Indigenous peoples and Tribal Nations by colonization. We encourage our staff, partners, and customers to reflect on both the sacrifices and contributions made by Native people.
In honoring this day with us, consider attending an event celebrating Indigenous culture.
Indigenous Peoples’ Day at College of Forestry, Oregon State University (10/14)
“Please join us for coffee and traditional foods as we celebrate Indigenous and Native Peoples in the Americas and acknowledge the immeasurable impact that settler colonialism had on Indigenous communities. We will hear inspiring stories from Indigenous members of the CoF community about how they are helping take our College and OSU beyond the land acknowledgement. We will provide hands-on demonstrations of traditional cultural activities.”
