When Sarah came into WorkSource, she already knew she wanted to become a Dental Assistant. Her goal was to become self-sufficient, and Dental Assisting provided her with an opportunity to enter a stable, in-demand healthcare career.
Like all WorkSource job seekers interested in job training, Sarah attended our Employment and Training Orientation. This is the first step for individuals wanting to learn more about re-training opportunities at WorkSource, providing program information along with eligibility criteria.
After, Sarah was connected with Employment Specialist Kristi Zelinka who was able to determine eligibility, evaluate experience, and interests to see if the new career would be a good fit.
Sarah worked tirelessly on her scholarship paperwork to show why she needed the training funding.
The Scholarship Committee was impressed by Sarah’s diligence and speed in getting her papers turned in and ultimately awarded her funding to train as a Dental Assistant!
But unfortunately, funding streams aren’t always guaranteed. WorkSource is funded by grants, and sometimes available funds can’t cover 100% of a job seeker’s training. In this case, Sarah found herself $2,000 short of being able to cover her tuition.
With class starting in a week, Kristi Zelinka suggested Sarah attend an Orientation at NEXT Success—WorkSource’s partner in employment services that works with youth aged 16-24.
Sarah was awarded the rest of her tuition from NEXT Success and received a brand new pair of scrubs and shoes for her training and future employment!
Congratulations to Sarah for using all the tools at her disposal to find a path to success!
Partnership is a key aspect of the WorkSource model. Whether it’s help with employment, housing, or other barriers, we know that sometimes returning to work demands the help of a team. This is why WorkSource’s partners are so important to us, as it often takes a village to uplift those who need it most.
