Earning a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a great way to increase your earning potential. Drivers are in high demand right now, but training can cost anywhere between $3,700 to $6,270. The barrier to a life changing career change is enough to stop many job seekers in their tracks.

But that’s where WorkSource comes in. We can help pay for eligible individuals’ training in an in-demand career, connect them to support services, and offer one-on-one guidance through the entire process, so that they never feel alone.

We’re pleased to present two success stories today, featuring job seekers who earned their CDL with the help of WorkSource!

When I was laid off, I was informed about different opportunities to get back on track. One of them was the Employment and Training Orientation at my local WorkSource office.

When I came there about the opportunities in the center, I was mainly interested in re-training because my occupation in construction was not in-demand anymore.

At WorkSource, I met Tetiana and Kristi, who helped me to earn my Commercial Driver’s License. Once I completed the training, Kristi helped me to purchase items necessary to perform the work.

I would like to express my gratitude to all staff, but especially Tetiana and Kristi, who helped me to gain employment and be self-sufficient.

Support services are a key part of how WorkSource sets job seekers up for success in a new career. As this customer says, some jobs require items that are necessary to begin work. These can be boots, uniforms, or tools, for example. WorkSource can help eligible candidates pay for work necessities so that you can hit the ground running when you start your new job.

Now, for our next success story!

Like many people from the post-Soviet area, I’ve decided to earn my CDL-A to be able to care for my loved ones in the best way I can. WorkSource has become a great source of help to begin. Both my case workers, Tetiana Bakhramova and Mikayla Ortiz, did really great work to provide me with all the information and support I needed. I couldn’t have made it without all their efforts. Both were always clear and on time.

I’m so grateful for the financial grant which covered my training cost at 160 Driving Academy. So, now I’m very close to starting a new career and am very excited about it! After all, I’ve stepped closer to my “American dream.”

Thank you!
